Maui, HawaiiMaui is second largest of the Hawaiian Islands and is roughly 727 square miles and welcomes over 2 million visitors a year. Once a leading whaling port, whale watching has become the major attraction because of the many migratory humpback whales that winter in the shelter of the Alenuihaha Channel. About a 20 minute flight from Honolulu (island of Oahu), Maui is also serviced with direct flights from the US mainland by carriers such as Delta, American, United, Aloha, and Hawaiian. A variety of Maui car rental companies are represented on the island including Avis, Thrifty, Budget, and Dollar rent-a-car. Maui has a diverse climate and you can experience rainforests, perpetually dry and sunny beaches, and cool mountain vistas all in the same day. Maui has no large cities with even the largest communities referred to as "towns." The people are friendly and laid back. The island was created by two large volcanoes, Kahalawai on the west and Haleakala on the east. These two towering mountains formed together to create the fertile isthmus in between which gave the island its nickname, "The Valley Isle." Maui vacation rentals including vacation condos, hotels, bed and breakfasts, and vacation home rentals are available in popular destinations such as Kihei, Maalaea, and Lahaina. Make Maui part of your Hawaii Vacation plans.
